Remote in Landesk sux

Is it just me or does the remote control portion of Landesk suck.  i have tried different solutions that have been applied by their tech support and yet there are still many machines that i cannot remote to.  Our environment consists of HP and Dell workstations (laptops and desktops) computers.  I guess my issue is that when we try to support a user and it crashes their machine, we look like the idiots for using a utility that creates this type of behavior on random machines. Why the hell does this happen?  i would understand if it happens, 1 in 100 machines, but the ratio is much lower than that.  Furthermore, if the machine does not crash/bsod it will error out a message on the client side.  At that point we need to deploy the agent back to the machine...WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?  Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesnt.

We've tried to reconfigure the Landesk client remote options every which way you cant think of, but the issue is that sometimes it works, but most times it doesn't. We have resulted on installing UltraVNC on 70% of the client computers and maybe by the end of the '09 we'll get the rest. My plea to Landesk, is that they invest a good portion of their earnings to remote control R&D.

Remote Control not working

Hi Community

first we had the problem that the patching of our clients did not work.

On advice of the LANDesk-Support we installed LDMS 9.5 SP1.

Now on my test clients the Remote Agent is not working.

System:

Testclient 1 running on: Windows XP Professional, 32-bit, SP3

Testclient 2 running on: Windows 8 Pro, 64-Bit

LDMS 9.5 SP1 running on: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, 64-bit, SP1

Symptoms:

1. Errormessage when trying to remote control one of those clients:

Unable to establish a secure session with the remote computer (-5)

2. Due the installation of the LANDesk-Agent we got the following error message on the client: "The application could not be started, because LIBEAY32MT.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may solve the problem". I receive the same error message when i try to un- and reinstall the issuser with the following commands:

C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\issuser.exe /remove

C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDClient\issuser.exe /resident

3. When i have a look at the agents on the client (right click client - properties - agents) the remote control agent status is not loaded. On the clients which are working the agent status is loaded.

4. The remote agent service (issuser.exe) couldn't be installed on the client.

5. In the survey of all devices in the LDMS the fault clients just got the symbol with the "field glasses". The "remote control symbol" is missing.

Troubleshooting:

1. Created a new Agent

2. Created a Advanced Agent

3. Run Uninstallwinclient.exe and reinstalled the agent after a reboot.

4. Reinstalled the old Agent which is working properly.

Does anybody have some ideas?

Thank you very much for help

Best regards

Clients Not Being Prompted for Remote Control

Hi All,

One of my LANDesk users (USER A) is having intermittent issues with remote controlling via the remote console.

On occasion, on initiating the RC session, he sees the standard "awaiting user permission" prompt but it's transpired that nothing has appeared on the client PC.

Attempts to then control the client PC via another RC session (with User B) fail as there's already a session in progress so effectively a session has been established, but not authenticated by the user.

Apparently closing and reopening the remote console fixes it temporarily but once it happens again, no further RC sessions are possible until the console has been restarted.

I'm thinking along the lines of deleting and re-creating the user in LDMS - who's not particularly happy about losing all the scheduled tasks - but before I do I was wondering if anyone has seen this before.

LDMS 9.0 SP3

Thanks in advance.

Error: "The remote computer is not in your scope"

When trying to remote control a machine from a remote console, I get the error "The remote computer is not in your scope."  My account is a member of "Default All Machines Scope", so that shouldn't be a problem.

I found this http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-1139 and it states the target computer is set to certificate based remote control.  First off, what is that?  Second, how to I make it so it's the same as all my other computers if it's different?  Third, how do I check what all my computers are set to?

Thanks,

Chris

rcgui.exe starting multiple times

We are seeing problems with multiple rcgui executables running. When a technian tries to connect using LD remote control more rcgui.exe start but the current process is still running and therefore a new rcgui process starts up. This is causing the techian not to be able to connect and only gets a black screen. So in this case ending the process for issuer.exe only kills 1 of the rcgui.exe but the others remain. The only work around we have found is having the user reboot their PC which doesn't help when trying to fix a issue. Does anyone know how to stop the multiple rcgui.exe or kill all of them without rebooting? Stopping the LANDesk remote control service only kills 1 rcgui.exe process.

We are on LD 9 no service pack. We have also tested on LD9 SP2 and have the same issues.

Scripting Remote control - ISSCNTR.EXE

Hi all,

Are there any commandline switches for the remote control executable? Basically what Im trying to do is launch the remote control tool with an argument of an Ipaddress.

Im sure there are a few ways to accomplish this.. I noticed under the remote control tool it stores the recently accessed computers. Is this information stored in a text file? Im thinking it can be done with an authority script using automated key strokes but I would like to see if Landers has already built in functionality for this.

Has anyone played with this before? Our goal is to be able to launch the remote control viewer from our remedy help desk software. Does LANDesk still sell the remedy connector?

Thanks in advance.

I would like to have a scheduled task available that would allow me to disable the permission required prompt when using remote control.  I would also like to have a task enable it also.  I have done this in the past but cannot remember how to accomplish this.

Hi to All,

I have tried to read most of the available solutions but to no avail.

I am able to do remote control via Remote Web Console, but I am unable to use RCViewer("isscntr.exe") to perform the same function.

Location: C:\Program Files\LANDesk\ServerManager\RCViewer

Does anyone encountered the same problem as me?

Filename: isscntr.exe

Version: 8.80.0.249

Would appreciate any help available.

Thanks so much!

Remote Control Viewer plugin doesn't get installed anymore

Hello everybody.

It appears that with newer versions of Firefox, the plugin which allows a user to launch the viewer with a right click on a device in the Web console doesn't get installed by ENURCViewer.exe .

Although I've not been able to understand why, I made a fix, that i'm giving you as a zip file.

The fix has been made by :

  • extracting the installation files from the MSI from the ENURCViewer.exe,
  • comparing with the installed files to see the one that were missing,
  • copying the missing file,
  • creating the registry keys needed for integration in firefox.

You just have to launch "install.bat" or look at the code to see what it does.

Hope this will help for those who can't get HTML5 RC feature right now.

Regards,

Dorian

I have a new install of Landesk 9.  All of the web console users get an error that the remote control viewer is not installed properly.  We have set the Internet options properly per the document that seems to end all other discussions on this thread, but we still get the error.  We have registered execviewer2.dll and installed enurcsetup.exe.  What else could be happening?

Getting message credentials required when tryingto remote controle through gateway

    I have 2 computers in a remote office that I would like to connect to through the Gateway appliance.  when it connects, I get the message they I need to enter the computers credentials.

These are not domain computers, however I do have the local admin user name and password.  that is not working however.

what exact format is the gateway expecting for me to enter these credentials?

username          or pcname\username

password

workgroup?        or  pcname          or blank          (this PC is not part of any domain.)

I've tried various combinations of this and nothing is working.

I know I have the correct usedrname password combination because I used these credential when I drove out to this remote office to install LANDesk.

i've been told that for our field office device that are not members of the domain, we should use a connection method other than Integrated Security being these device don't integrate with AD.

and I'm waiting for LD support to get back to me on setting that up. but in the mean time, how do I connect to these PCs to do other stuff?

Remote control is disabled on console

Hi All,

Just found that after upgrade the core server from 9.0sp2 to 9.5, the remote control is disabled when I right click the machines and to select remote control (gray color).

I have checked on the agent side, the remote control is up and running, and the remote control icon is sitting on the system tray as normal.

But when I right click "inspect" -> "properties" -> "remote control", I can remote any computer I want on the all device list.

Anyone know what is happening?

9.5 SP1 - Trusting the HTML Remote Control SSL Cert

$

Upgraded to 9.5 SP1

I have followed the procedure to import the supplied SSL Root Cert into our AD from this article: http://community.landesk.com/support/docs/DOC-28617

However, when I navigate to a HTML remote Control session I am still getting SSL Cert errors.

The problem is that the supplied Cert for import has a completely different Issuer string than the one used by the installed Agents.

Issuer String from Imported SSL Cert:

CN = www.landesk.com

C = US

S = Utah

L = South Jordan

E = support@landesk.com

OU = HTML5 Remote Control

O = LANDesk(R) Management Suite

Issuer String from HTML RC Session:

CN = LANDesk Software (http://www.landesk.com)

C = US

S = Utah

L = South Jordan

E = support@landesk.com

O = LANDesk Software

As the CNs do not match the SSL Cert will always error . . .

Can this be fixed ASAP ? Possibly issue a new SSL Cert to import into AD ? The new Cert will need to have the same issuer string as the one from the HTML RC Session.

Regards

Phil

Hi

When I start a remote session, I can put in the textbox "cmd.exe" and cmd will open. Is there a default set of variables/shortcuts which I can use or can I configure it somewhere?
